Operations Manager: Stone Classification Specialist
Job Description
Inspect and classify imported stone from factories. Oversee education programs for Purchasing and Sales departments. Coordinate with Sales Department to source stone for commercial construction projects. Inspect quarries for life span and quality assurance. Coordinate international logistics of stone distribution. Negotiate with factories and logistics companies. Supervise individuals performing quarry and distribution tasks. Provide company leadership with input and updates on projects. Respond to regulatory questions and inquiries and perform various research and identifies solutions.
Position requires at least 10 years of progressive, post-bachelor's related experience.
Requires 30% international travel.
Managing international operations, logistics, inventory, and distribution of stone material by working and supervising multiple managers at multiple international quarries.
Visiting international quarries and factories to evaluate operations for regulatory compliance.
Coordinating operations of multiple international quarries, including overseeing design of quarry project, proper governmental filings and approval to ensure lawful operations, compliance to respective international statutory environmental impact standards, and avoid statutory risk and fines, cost control, and distribution and logistics.
Performing classifications and physical tests of the natural stones by following the quality and production standards (compressive strength, flexural strength, water absorption, abrasion, and porosity) set forth by the Marble Institute of America and the American Society of Testing Materials.
Theoretical optimum moisture content testing, sampling frequency, consistency, or standard deviation of measurements, ensures that passing samples of all stone material meets quality standards.
Petrographic analysis to identify mineral composition of the natural stone and act upon standard deviations to the mineral composition that would negatively impact that quality of the stone material.
Quality inspections of custom, cut-to-size pieces (damage, size, workmanship, surfacing and resin, and gloss light standards) using calipers and gloss meters.
Conducting education programs covering quarry and factory operations, quality standards, characteristics of the stone material, and stone material marketing, and application and use of stone material in residential and commercial projects given to purchasing and sales departments to promote the stone material and answer customer inquiries.
Providing client installation direction, residential and commercial projects, on the amount of subgrade needed to install a particular stone material, appropriate installation material and tools, and related.
Risk assessments on inspections and security requirements in compliance with Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) to facilitate processes.

Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.Position requires at least 10 years of progressive, post-bachelor's related experience.
Requires 30% international travel.
